At Buffalo River Services, Inc., we provide innovative and person centered support to individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities across Tennessee. As part of our commitment to engancing te quality of life for those we serve, we are excited to incorporate the Medicaid Alternative Pathways (MAPS) program, an initiative of the Tennessee Division of Developmental and Intellectual Disabilities (DDA Employment and Community First CHOICES program is administered by TennCare through its contracted managed care organizations.

What is MAPS?
MAPS, or Medicaid Alternative Pathways, is a program designed to offer flexible and
individualized support options to individuals with developmental and intellectual
disabilities. This initiative is part of Tennessee’s broader effort to reform Medicaid
services, making them more accessible and tailored to the unique needs of each
individual.

MAPS provides alternative pathways to traditional Medicaid services, focusing on
personalized care plans that emphasize community integration, independence, and self-
determination. The program is especially valuable for those who may not fit into the
conventional Medicaid waiver programs but still require significant support to live
fulfilling lives.

How MAPS Benefits Our Community
At Buffalo River Services, Inc., we recognize that every individual has unique needs and
aspirations. The MAPS program allows us to better serve our community by providing
more customized support options.

Here’s how MAPS benefits the individuals we serve:

1. Personalized Care Plans:

  • MAPS enables us to develop individualized care plans that reflect each

person’s specific goals, preferences, and needs. This person-centered
approach ensures that support is truly tailored to the individual.

2. Flexible Service Options:

  • The program offers a range of service options that go beyond traditional

Medicaid services, including employment supports, community
participation, and enhanced daily living assistance. This flexibility allows
us to better meet the diverse needs of our clients.

3. Community Integration:

  • MAPS places a strong emphasis on helping individuals integrate into their

communities. Whether through supported employment, volunteer

opportunities, or social engagement, the program is designed to help
individuals live as independently and inclusively as possible.

4. Innovative Approaches:

  • By exploring alternative pathways, MAPS encourages innovative service

delivery models that can be adapted to changing needs. This ensures that
the support provided remains relevant and effective over time.

5. Holistic Support:

  • MAPS addresses not just the immediate needs of individuals, but also

their long-term goals. This holistic approach promotes overall well-being,
helping individuals lead healthier, more fulfilling lives.
